Cardiff City Impressed With Young Malaysian Striker Safee Sali ...

Posted: 28 Sep 2011 07:27 AM PDT

It has been revealed that Championship side Cardiff have been impressed with young Malaysian striker Safee Sali who has been in South Wales for 10 days.

The striker now returns to Malaysia to prepare for an international match against Australia, a side who recently beat Wales at CCS.

Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay said : "Safee joined us for a ten day trial, during which time he showed a great attitude and work ethic while soaking in the environment and the way we train here at Cardiff City,".

"Obviously it was a big change and a different style and level of football, though he adapted and integrated well with the squad. We also appreciate that it's difficult to get a full picture during a short ten day period, especially with the number of games and match preparation we had during that time.

"With a mind to the need for Safee to play competitive games with the Malaysian national team and in Indonesia with Pelita Jaya, we have asked Safee to return to Cardiff City for a two week period in the future which will be beneficial to all concerned. For now though we say our goodbyes and would like to put on record that we consider Safee to be a credit to his team and his country."

The player himself added: "After playing with the reserves and even the first team at training, I have found the game here to be very much quicker. You do not get so much time with the ball. It is a whole new and different level.

"The training has gone well and all my team-mates gave me a really warm welcome. Although it has been just two weeks, I have learned since I have been here. God willing, I may return to play here in the near future."

Safee Sali berjaya pikat Cardiff City | wrizuan.net

Posted: 21 Sep 2011 07:43 PM PDT

Siapa Ramli ?

Safee Sali David Beckham Malaysia

Posted: 14 Sep 2011 08:10 PM PDT

Safee Sali David Beckham Malaysia

Safee Sali is a good lad but work permit issues remain the stumbling ...

Posted: 16 Sep 2011 09:15 PM PDT

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has heaped praises on Malaysian star striker Safee Sali, who joined the club on trials last week.

Safee is now two days into his two week stint with the Bluebirds and Mackay claims that he has been impressed with what he has seen from Safee, stating that he was a good lad as well.

"He's only been with us for a couple of days and from what I can see, he's a nice lad," Mackay told the Wales Online.

"He's a stocky striker and he comes with a track record so I'm happy to have a look at him."

When asked about how he got in touch with the 27-year-old, Mackay said that the owners, who are Malaysian, brought up Safee's name within the recruitment department.

However Mackay repeated that the final decision was up to him and the Cardiff boss only decided to have a look at him due to his impressive track record.

He added: "The owners spoke to the recruitment department and I said 'let's have a look at this lad.

"A couple of teams in the Premier League have tapped into the Asian market and if it's going to help Cardiff City, I'm up for it."

The player, dubbed as the Malaysian 'David Beckham' was previously in line for a trial stint with QPR but unfortunately things never materialised.

Cardiff City have now presented him with a real opportunity to impress and make the next big move into English Football but as Mackay said, even an exceptional impression might not be enough.

Mackay said: "We are hamstrung in the UK by work permits and criteria to get players into the country.

"Park Ji-Sung at Manchester United couldn't sign until he'd played for PSV Eindhoven in Holland for a couple of years.

"Most Asian players have to go through Europe and get bought by British from Europe, so we're not on a level playing field."

Malaysia's Fifa world ranking of 146 will indeed be detrimental towards Sali's chances of making a permanent move to Cardiff but nevertheless, this trial stint could stimulate further opportunities for him in Europe.

According to Astro Arena, Safee Sali is currently chased by German club. I'm not sure how true is the rumor is but I seriously hope Safee can continue his career in Bundesliga (even I don't care if it's just 2.Bundesliga or Oberliga etc).

So, which German club is interested with Safee Sali; Bayern Munich or Werder Bremen or Bayer Leverkusen?

Queens Park Rangers ready to test Safee Sali and Khairul Fahmi ...

Posted: 23 Aug 2011 10:46 AM PDT

Queens Park Rangers (QPR) is willing to give opportunities to players, Safee Sali and Khairul Fahmi Che Mat (Apek) for training with the football cub in English Premier League

QPR purchases by Malaysia, Tune Sports Sdn. Ltd. not only for commercial purposes only but also to improve local sports and talents in Malaysia.

In fact, the Board of QPR, Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said, the ownership of football clubs Premier League (EPL) is not only to highlight the current national players, but also gives more exposure to young players in the future.

This is an excellent opportunity to Safee and Apek to further enhance the game of football between the two. Hopefully there will be a positive decision from the club QPR.

Safee Sali will be given a chance to impress QPR manager Neil ...

Posted: 26 Aug 2011 08:51 AM PDT

New Queen's Park Rangers owner Tan Sri Tony Fernandes will hand two Malaysian national players, including Safee Sali, a trial at the English Premier League club.

Fernandes said QPR manager Neil Warnock was impressed with Safee after watching tapes of the Pelita Jaya striker, who was instrumental in Malaysia's AFF Cup triumph last year.

"Neil Warnock saw tapes of Safee and he was very impressed. We're hoping to bring him and one other over for a trial after the transfer period closes," Fernandes told radio station Hitz.fm yesterday.

"The potential for a Malaysian (player) to be noticed is much bigger now that we are here (in England)."

Safee, who joined Indonesian Super League side Pelita from Selangor early this year, would not be the first Malaysian to go on trial at an English club.

Kedah winger Baddrol Bakhtiar and Selangor's Bunyamin Umar attended a two-week training stint with Chelsea in 2008 while Sabah's Liverpool-born goalkeeper Syed Adney Syed Hussein had trials with Middlesbrough and Darlington.

But if Safee is to have any hope of playing in England, QPR would need to overcome stringent British work permit requirements as Fernandes acknowledged.

"We have some issues with the ranking (of the national team) and work permit. We'll deal with it when the time comes," added Fernandes.

To qualify for a work permit, a non-European Union player must feature in at least 75 per cent of his national team's 'A' level matches and his country must have averaged at least 70th in Fifa's world rankings.

While Safee is a first choice for Malaysia, the country's ranking of 146 works against him.

It was the same fate that befell former national midfielder Lim Chan Yew in 2005 when he was about to sign with Bournemouth, then in the English Third Division, only to fail to obtain a work permit.
